At Motion Lit, we’ve set up our checkout to be fast, secure, and straightforward, so you can complete your purchase with confidence. This page covers everything you need to know about how payments work on our site.
1. Accepted Payment Methods
We currently accept the following major credit and debit cards:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- American Express
- Discover
- JCB
- Diners Club
All accepted payment icons are displayed at checkout so you can confirm your card is supported before completing your order. If your card is issued by one of these networks, it will work on our site regardless of the specific bank that issued it.
We periodically review our supported payment options and may add additional methods over time. If you don’t see a preferred payment option at checkout, feel free to reach out — we’re always evaluating ways to make purchasing easier for our customers.
2. When Payment Is Charged
Payment is collected in full at the time your order is placed. We do not offer partial payments, deposits, or pay-later options at this time. Your order will not enter processing until payment has been successfully authorized and confirmed.
This means that as soon as you complete checkout, your card will be charged the full order amount, including shipping and applicable tax. We process orders promptly after payment confirmation so your motion-sensor lighting can get into production and out the door with minimal delay.
3. How We Process Payments
All transactions are handled through our WooCommerce checkout, which connects to secure, PCI-compliant third-party payment processors to authorize and process your card details. Motion Lit does not directly store your full card number, expiration date, or security code on our servers — that sensitive information is encrypted and handled entirely by our payment processor in accordance with industry security standards.
Your billing information (such as your name and billing address) is used only to verify your payment and complete your order, in line with our Privacy Policy.
Because we rely on established third-party processors rather than building our own payment infrastructure, you benefit from the same fraud detection, encryption, and compliance safeguards used across thousands of other online stores, rather than a system built and maintained in-house.
4. Currency
All prices on our website are displayed and charged in U.S. Dollars (USD). If you’re paying with a card issued outside the United States, your bank or card issuer may apply its own currency conversion rate and, in some cases, an international transaction fee. Any such fees are determined by your card issuer, not by Motion Lit.
We recommend checking with your bank ahead of time if you’re an international customer and want to estimate the total cost of your order in your local currency, since conversion rates can fluctuate daily.
5. Order Verification
For your protection and ours, some orders may be flagged for additional verification before they’re processed — for example, if billing and shipping information don’t match, or if a transaction is flagged as potentially high-risk by our payment processor. If this happens, our team will contact you using the email or phone number provided at checkout to confirm the details before your order moves forward.
This step exists to protect you as much as it protects us. Verifying unusual orders helps prevent your card from being used fraudulently on our site, and helps us avoid shipping products to an address that doesn’t match your payment method. We aim to complete verification quickly so it doesn’t meaningfully delay your order.
6. Failed, Declined, or Incomplete Payments
If your payment doesn’t go through, your order will not be processed or shipped. This can happen for a few common reasons:
- Incorrect card number, expiration date, or security code
- Insufficient funds or a card limit being reached
- A billing address that doesn’t match the address on file with your card issuer
- Your bank flagging the transaction for extra security review
If your payment is declined, we recommend double-checking your card details and trying again, or contacting your card issuer directly for more information, since we don’t have visibility into the specific reason a bank or processor declines a transaction.
If you’ve tried multiple times and continue to run into issues, feel free to reach out to us directly. While we can’t see the specific decline reason on our end, we can confirm whether the order attempt reached us at all, which can help you narrow down whether the issue is with your card, your bank, or something else.
7. Sales Tax
Applicable sales tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address and current state and local tax requirements. The exact tax amount will be shown before you complete your purchase.
Tax rates and rules vary by state and locality and can change periodically. Our checkout system is designed to apply the correct, up-to-date rate automatically, so you don’t need to calculate anything yourself — just review the tax line at checkout before confirming your order.
8. Refunds to Your Original Payment Method
When a refund is approved under our Return & Refund Policy, it will be issued back to the same card used for the original purchase. Refund processing times may vary slightly depending on your card issuer, but funds are typically released from our end within 10 business days of approval.
Once we release a refund, the timeline for it to appear on your statement is largely out of our hands and depends on your bank’s own processing schedule. If it’s been longer than 10 business days since we confirmed your refund and you still don’t see it, let us know and we can provide confirmation of the transaction for you to share with your bank.
9. Payment Security
We take payment security seriously. Our checkout uses encrypted (SSL/TLS) connections to protect your information in transit, and our payment processors maintain compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). We never ask for your full card details over email or phone.
If you ever receive a message claiming to be from Motion Lit asking for your card number, expiration date, or security code directly, please treat it as suspicious and contact us to verify before responding — legitimate requests from us will never ask for that information outside of our secure checkout.
10. Questions About a Charge
If you notice an unfamiliar charge, a duplicate charge, or believe there’s been a billing error, please contact us right away so we can look into it. In most cases, unauthorized charge concerns are best resolved quickly, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
When reaching out about a charge, it helps to include your order number (if you have it), the date and amount of the charge, and the last four digits of the card used, so we can locate the transaction quickly.
